My two young mates met in Paris to watch the Aussies

Had one eye on the match during the slow bits of the Proms last night, sound off, so from what i could tell the Argies were bloody awful. Far too many handling errors. Clearly this is England's best chance of Glory: wait for the opposition to balls it up and kick all the free shots you can get.

Tom Curry sending off was a contentious decision. Too further impact it with a three match ban for a player airborne landing him in an accidental manner will not attract new viewers to the game.
Drop goals although a difficult skill should only earn two points you not think as it's more a line of defense than going for a try.

Argentina didn't turn up, George Ford will probably keep the 10 shirt, he had a good game. The sending off was ridiculous, it looked accidental, a yellow card would have been the right decision, but fair play to England winning with 14 men for pretty much the entire match.

Argentina made it look easy for England. Despite being one man down in the forwards, the English backs still lacked any cohesion or sparkle to break a defensive line to score a try.

The fear is Borthwick will be in place with that win to to lead england in the six nations.

Just been reading Curry could be banned for six weeks or three if he's been a good boy in the past.

Argentina made it easy for England, but irrespective of being down to 14 for most of the game, the English were still lacking initiative and flair in the backs to win tryless.

The consistency of reffing so far has been atrocious. During the France/AB game, any knee going down in the scrum resulted in penalties, whilst the same offence has been commonplace in follow up games and totally ignored by refs. Curry's head clash was obviously accidental, but resulted in a red card. A similar head clash in today's Japan/Chile only drew a yellow.

I enjoyed the Japan/Chile game as it is raw rugby, both teams looking to run the ball............that's what rugby is all about!! Youngsters should watch these games, rather than the tier 1 big wigs, whose sole tactic now seems to be 'kick and chase' looking for the opponent to make mistakes rather than run the ball and using handling/running skills to make the score.

As the pools play out over the next few weeks and the big wigs move on to the knock out stages, I fear that the game will become more risk averse with just kick, kick, chase, chase ping pong dull rugby. :(

England may have won, but it was not terribly exciting to watch, having not a single try.

Consequence of the rule changes, they were saying on the radio today.
Why risk getting a penalty when your running play stops at the tackle, when you can hoof it over to your opponent, and let them take the risk? Which they won't, so they hoof it back......

Another good point made: every other sport nowadays seems to be changing, to make it more attractive to the fans.
In rightly trying to protect the players, they're going the other way.
Perhaps the nature of rugby was inherently not conducive to player safety, and the changes stop it being the (entertaining) game it was?

Martin Johnson said today, fans have spoken to him after games, saying that they enjoyed it, but didn't understand most of it. To which MJ would reply that he'd played in the game, and didn't understand a third of it.
And that was in his day.

This game should give us an idea if South Africa are on their game and go on to win it.

I read he'll be in the job for the full term of his contract: 2027, no matter how far England go in this tournament.

Watching the Scots gamely giving it a go against the Boks but they're really up against it since the 2nd half began. Missed a golden opportunity to score in the 1st half and blew it. Now SA are bringing on the heavy cavalry with people who appear to be made of obsidian and bricks. Game over.
It'll be fun to see how the Irish cope with all that pace and power but the real crunch will come when the Gael go head-to-head.

To look big on a rugby field (to stand out), they've gotta be absolute units.

That Will Skelton - 6ft 8 and over 21 stone.

Jeez us wept :D
I know, right? They wouldn't be out of place in the Defensive Line on an NFL Gridiron. But these bug'rs don't need padding. The power is one thing but the speed at which they run is the bloody scary bit. It must be like getting hit by falling piano. o_O
