Can anyone tell me please how to remove rusty screws in wooden posts, there are three screws which hold the gate closing latch to the wooden post. I do not want to ruin the post which is in good condition. The screw heads are rusted too much to get a screwdriver in. Many thanks if anyone can help.

Grind whats left of the screw heads away, and remove the latch......when you replace the latch, reposition it where you can use new screws, and cover the remains of the old screws with it.
John :)

mole or pipe grips with decent teeth on them? flat file and a small spanner? hacksaw blade and a flat blade screwdriver ( a dremel with a cutting disk is an alternative if the screws are countersunk.. )

An old trick for removing rusted screws from wood was to heat the screw heads with a large soldering iron before attempting to unscrew them. The heating helps break the bond between the remains of the screw, the rust and the wood.

another option if you have room is a hacksaw between post and lock
it will scratch the latch and the post though
