thank you responding, it's appreciated. The power from the boiler to the receiver is the white cable. The brown is showing live.

The white cable you show, is the switching wires for the boiler - this is the cable that should be connected to terminals NO and COM on the Salus.
I was asking about the cable that is supplying power to the Salus - the one connected to N and L.

yes checked and the fuse is good, do you think its the receiver?
Either that, or the switch, cable etc.
If you haven't got a multimeter to check the supply from the FCU, I would disconnect the Salus from the boiler and FCU (safely isolating the power first to boiler and FCU), find a spare power cord, connect up the L and N, and plug it in.
Alternatively, you could connect another appliance to the FCU (disconnecting the Salus first), and see if it powers up.
You say the receiver is new, but the warranty sticker is broken. Was this an eBay purchase?

thank you, the unit was new (yes is was via eBay), although did open up so broek the sticker. I'll try another appliance to the FCU. Power is definitely coming from the FCU to the receiver. I did purchase a new receiver this morning to check and that didn't power up either, so returned the receiver as it was doing the same as the unit in the pics. So, could both of these receivers be faulty?

power from fcu to receiver is there
A neon screwdriver has its uses, but it's not the most reliable tool.
If you haven't a multimeter, then it still may be worth trying...
find a spare power cord, connect up the L and N, and plug it in
And
connect another appliance to the FCU
At least that should prove which part is at fault.

I also noticed that there's both another black cable and a white cable going into the FCU, do you know where these wires go to?
Is one the supply to the boiler, and the other the incoming supply?
