Sanity Check: Cost of new Consumer Unit install

[assumption]
As ypu supply is over head cables the supply company ( DNO ) cannot garantee that they can provide an earth to your property. Damage to the overhead cable could disconnect an Earth wire but leave the Live still connected. Very hazardous if the house relies on the Earth from the supply network. Most networks combine the Earth and the Neutral onto the same wire but the effect is the same if that wire snaps.

We don't know. All the overhead supplies round here are PME.

Interesting the first electrician didn't point anything out - have they visited the property?

When we arranged the supply to our house in 1980 we were given a PME from an over head open 4 wire supply. But the engineer advised caution and suggested that a TT supply would be better as the poles were 1939 vintage and anything was possible. The original supply to this cottage was TT as distribution had been open 4 wire before the mains were up-graded to UG ( mainly to improve the appearance of the village green by removing the cables. The adjacent shop is still TT.

Modern overheads using 4 core twisted are far less likely to lose the neutral and thus their earth without at the same time losing the Live.
