hi guys

Just wondering if any one can tell me how much scaffolding I will need for a gable end conversion.

Thinking of buying some my self, and using them then selling! :D

Around 8 meters in lenght by around 7 meters maybe 8 in height.

I think you'd have to be bonkers to build it yourself, tread carefully //www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=65714#65714[/QUOTE]

I am not bonkers.

I just want to buy some, employ a scaffolder and get them to erect it for me.
(the correct way)

The project could take me several months, I just dont want to waste money on renting it out.

I know scaffolding is a skilled job, thats one that I will not be doing!

Ibby.... I would do the same buy it use it and sell it, but make sure the scaffolder is not a fly by night....as the op said if not done correctly can be a death trap

I would never mess about with errecting scaffolding - its too dangerous.

Ideas how many meters of scaffold i would need?

Why not either negotiate a price for long term rent from the scaffolder - which will be less than you buying it paying for delivery/erection/dismantling, storage and selling it all on

Or just buy it off the scaffold company

TBH, a one off cash upfront payment to the scaffolder will be a lot less expensive than buying

Be aware that scaffold needs to be checked regularly once assembled

I would not have a clue of how many meters you would require as its not just a 7mx8m you will also need all the other sections ...why dont you ask a scaffolder to give a measure and price and take it from there

how can it be cheaper

Because you say something like "Hey Mr Scaffolder, I can buy scaffold for £200, so I don't want to pay you ££250 for hire. So If I give you say £190 cash, then that will cover the hire and if you like just go and buy some more at your trade discount price for £190"

I understand the batering!

but long term, ie 3 months or so could add up the cost.!

No, no, no

It's not bartering its just logic

You are not going to pay more for hiring, than the cost of buying scaffold - whatever the length of time, and the scaffolder knows this

So if he wants the money then he accepts either a low hire charge, or he accepts a price which equals or is less than the cost of buying the scaffold.
