Scottish independence

I'm not bitter, I live in England now and am not in touch with Scots relations.

If the people who live in Scotland want to make England independent of them, they can. I'm sure England will treat them with no less kindness than any other small European country.

Last time BoS and RBoS went bust the BoE bailed them out.

Not next time, obviously.

He's only trying to keep the pound because he can't sell the Euro.

But no one can get a straight answer on whether Scotland will have a choice on that, if it wants to be in the EU he *might* have the euro forced on Scotland.

I really don't understand why Scottish people who are pro independence are supportive of him ramming EU membership down their throats, it's not in their interests.

I suspect Salmond will have to give up quite a lot in the negotiations for admittance of Scotland to the EU. The EU will make sure they get the better of the deal.

They don't have to get the Euro (and might not qualify) but would have to meet and follow strict controls.

Although I thought that used to be the plan.

They can have a Scottish pound, or a guilder, or a dollar if they want.

No doubt Salmond thought all this through years ago (not)

The reason they voted to join England is the first place was because Scotland was bankrupt.

Sorry, but no.

No one knows, any source you can dredge up to say "no", can be refuted by another source that says "yes".

Scotland really needs a proper referendum on this, not "do you want independence from England", then straight away try and fudge a deal with the EU where no one knows what that deal will be, which is what is presented at present.

The point is that if they vote for independence, the ruling party has made it clear they will go down the route of being an EU member, there is no option number 2.

No one is quite sure if they would have to apply as a new member, or remain a member under existing agreements, new members have to join the Euro (and that's not clear either).

So to be accurate they don't "have" to join the EU, but they are, and so nobody knows if they will be forced to adopt the Euro or not.
