Mine is in a cupboard on a shelf in our wet room but it's only about 20cm off the ground so could well not be a "shelf" as such and more like a plinth. I will see if I can work out how it was constructed.
18mm ply on 2x1s on 200mm centres. It is shelf-like in that it is not supported in the centre, ie, it could have been 100cm off the ground with other shelves under it.
But that's what's being suggested here - 3x2 at an extremely short span, sitting on ledgers mounted to the walls, with a thick plywood base - essentially a very solid floor

It would be a major issue, simply raising the WM, up to that height, to get it onto a shelf in a confined space. When I have needed to do repairs on our WM, where I've needed to raise it off the floor, I have found it best to rock it from side to side, whilst sliding in off-cuts of rail sleepers, a little at a time, finishing by slipping milk crates under. The idea of raising the weight up 4 or 5 feet in the air, without mechanical assistance, doesn't bear thinking about.
