They are in Ireland claiming Asylum

apparently exactly zero people have been "sent back" either way.

It depends on what their actual status is in the UK. Everyone is guessing at the moment.

It's a very strange state of affairs.

Ireland claims 80% of their asylum seekers have come from the UK. But the Refugee Council denies this.

Ireland claims there is an agreement to return them to the UK. But the UK says it won't accept them.

We don't even know who they are. If they are people who entered the UK legally, then it looks like there would be no threat of being sent to Rwanda. So, they could have applied for asylum here.

Maybe it's just politicking on both sides.

including the Irish Justice minister apparently.

What paperwork do you need for a ferry from GB to NI?
For UK nationals a passport is not strictly necessary but photographic identification is required. Check with your airline/ferry company as requirements vary.

For other nationals a valid passport or national identity card required.

For citizens from Europe and most other western countries visas are not usually required.

You will not need a passport to cross the border from the Republic of Ireland into Northern Ireland and vice versa.

It looks like the approach the Irish leadership are taking is to get the word out that if you are Nigerian and you come via the UK, they will fast track you back to Nigeria. Irelands rejection rate is double the UK.

Is it the case that if they originally entered the UK legally, and then applied for asylum here, then they would not be part of the Rwanda scheme?

Why are they more efficient, quicker, and better at it ?
