This fix worked a treat for me to fix stuck plug mechanism. thanks :
"Why cant you reach around the back of the waste tail, and unscrew the gnarled nut that captures the rod and ball?
Unless the waste and trap have been boxed in, its a simple matter to reach around behind and work by touch, altho in most cases you can push your head in to see what you are doing."
