Smear Karma

You are absolutely right, but pensioners became an easy target.

Never mentioned in the Manifesto.
Nor was the black hole.

Better to face the truth than hide it and spend what we haven't got. It's responsible government, but still hurts.

Truth or not. I'd take the truth.

What's all the fuss they are proposing to scrap the universal winter fuel allowance, not the allowance itself. Mind you look what happened when Thatch tried to make the poll tax fairer

While I agree that those that can afford it shouldn’t get the heating allowance, I saw on the TV news the other day that there were 808,000 people that should be claiming pension credit that aren’t. They said that if they all claimed (and this means testing for heating allowance may cause them to do so), it will cost something like £2.2 billion a year and that’s without all the administrative costs that go with it. Sometimes a saving is not a saving!

Reminded me of a story from our local paper about 40 years ago. Some bright spark in Newham General hospital stopped the free cartons of orange juice that was given to patients. Saved them about £30,000 a year. Only trouble was, they then had to spend £40,000 a year on containers to put the sharp’s in as up until then, they had been using the empty orange juice cartons to dispose of the sharps.

It was an open secret. Both sides knew about it.
Like the prisons ?

I don't think anybody walking into the job actually really knew how bad things were.

Don't knock labour by saying tories were good. It doesn't add up

Never mind. Labour are in charge now. Everything is going to be tickety boo.

hopefully

prison figures are all out there in the public domain and im pretty certain the shadow minister would have them to hand on a weekly basis

Contaminated sharps in orange juice containers, what good safe practice, what next blood soaked bandages wrapped in old chip papers

PS has a whiff of urban myth about it too

The thing is, I reckon almost all negative stuff against Labour (in terms of what they've done since gaining power) is pointless. It's almost laughable to see Tories on tv progs slating them when they're 5 mins in the job.

How many analogies do we want? It would be like someone tasked with maintaining a grand mansion and grounds for 14 years and doing diddly squat in terms of positive maintenance. Then someone else getting the job and a few weeks in people saying 'why haven't you fixed this yet, why haven't you fixed that yet?!?'

Farce.

Whilst true, there is nowt to prevent them putting forward plans and ideas to put a stop to them, even before they got into power. so far - nowt but promises that they would find away. I wonder if the recent riots, might have deterred any?

Everyone of a certain age got it, 200 quid to millionaires and billionaires, do you think that's ok?

No, but what I heard was that the administration to not pay them, would cost the country more than the £200 cost..

What is very wrong with the system, is that if you meet the need for benefits, then you get flooded with extra benefits. If you get a pound more than level, then you lose out on so very much..

A convenient target, yes. Once your population demography stat's means that you have an awful lot of one particular group, then the inevitable will occur. If you took it to the extreme and were a nation of mostly pensioners, then what? There's no point everyone looking blankly at each other waiting for the other person to say it.

Look after the poor ones and tax the B'jesus out of the rich ones, I say. (y)
