Smell of gas from boiler?

Well, leave you without a working boiler at any rate. A plume diverter kit should sort the problem
what a plume kit will sort delayed ignition if its gas now there is a new one on me

Thanks for this.
Appreciate it.
Do I have to now make sure it complys with current regs? If I don't whats the consequences?
I just bought the house 3 months ago and didn't know it didn't comply.

So in terms of the very occasional smell of gas when boiler fires up?
While fitting a plume diverter will address the issue, non compliance to gas safety regs will not go away.
The smell you are getting most likely the gas smell before the gas mix ignites. Regardless, if that small is entering the kitchen, so will products of combustion ( so keep the window closed until matter addressed). It likely coming into the kitchen as the distance from the opening has not been observed.

I wonder if the lintel has been cored thus integrity compromised. In Scotland house buyer has 5 days to report any defects to seller who mostly comply. Recently a client had the hot water cylinder plinth replaced as the plinth made from chipboard had failed due to a leak from the cylinder. The plinth should have been constructed from plywood. Same house boiler replaced too as condensate leaked inside and sealed chamber breached

You might want to reach out to the buyer, then invite the the installer to attend as installation is not complying to the regs. Or talk with GasSafe and ask them to check out the installation

I’m with @CBW on this, the most likely is that it isn’t gas but get it checked out by National Grid. I had the same situation and called out NG who told me the smell was POC and not gas. Also get a plume kit fitted to the flue.

If there is a smell of gas from the flue then that may be because the gas is not lighting immediately.

That can be due to delayed spark starting, ignition electrodes not correctly placed, fault or blockage in gas carrying parts close to the ignition point. Most modern boilers feed gas to the whole burner and expect ignition to occur within a second or two.

Fitting a plume diversion kit will remove the smell of unburnt gas but it will not correct the wrong flue positioning and nor will it correct whatever is causing the delayed ignition.
