So what a horrible plan

I cant actually see, where in the Cato report, you link it mentions healthcare

"As for other services areas, health services are an area where both sides would benefit from openness to foreign competition, although we recognize any changes to existing regulations will be extremely controversial."

I really don't understand if you knew anything about the stance of the Cato institute what they always push for if you think that is not on their agenda.

The model under which the NHS was created cannot continue. Put simply too many people living too long and working (and paying taxes) for a significantly shorter portion of their life.

The biggest improvement we can all make to the NHS, isn't privatisation or more funding, but reducing demand.

The best value or bang for buck spending on healthcare is from public health campaigns and focusing on prevention rather than a cure. The US system is a disparate array of providers who have no collective focus other than on treating symptoms - it is not in their vested interest to lower demand.

Incorrect to say Government provided healthcare cannot continue - it is still more cost effective than a private system no matter how you look at it. This does not preclude private provision it is not an argument of one or another - the best systems have a mix of private provision and public provision but not private delivery of public services.

According to the commonwealth fund the NHS for 2 years in a row has come first in a survey of 11 countries ,America was bottom of the list.
Despite America spending a bigger proportion of its GDP on health care than the UK it still comes out at the bottom.
Is this disparity due to the fact that in private health care you have to factor in a margin of profit for investors and shareholders who don't contribute anything to the running of the system other than their money on which they expect a return.

The US system is expensive for a myriad of reasons. The video should explain it all. It is madness moving to the US system.

I know thats what the Guardian says, but the Cato report you and they linked, doesnt seem to discuss the NHS.

I do agree a US private health insurance model is the most expensive and least efficient method to deliver healthcare provision.

The German healthcare system is a mixed model of public, private, for profit and not for profit, so a total public NHS isnt the only option for success.

Clearly a free market model wont work, a business driven by shareholder profit isnt a recipe for success.

I quoted that direct from the Cato report it's not from the Guardian. The German model has large number of regulations and restrictions and is highly controlled. It is really not a free private system as you may think.

We don't as a nation consume more health services as a nation than other countries per capita. Apart from the US other OECD countries have a mixed model and central provision is a major core part. You are ranting as usual.

I assume you haven't watch the video above which explains how bad the US system is.

So what alternative system do you suggest?

Brexit is economic suicide!

Along with a political surrender to the US...

And that's a far worse scenario than even the most rabid brexiteer could come up with to justify their xenophobic hatred of the EU!
You love that crystal ball economic scare mongering

Exactly...lefty lazy lay abouts bringing down the NHS

85 people, every week, book an appointment at my local surgery and do not turn up....no cancellation no nothing...paracetamol etc etc on prescription...Helping to ruin the NHS,,not all down to living longer

Project fear alive and well
Yep, the pound tanks every time a negative Brexit news bulletin is announced. That is not project fear but the truth.

Why is that? Is it because those in the financial world are thrilled with the news or nervous about it?

Perhaps DP has the answer...….
