Socket timer

Thanks ban, I think it would be easier and cheaper to use socket timer for now as I'm not looking at long term hopefully!

Can I make one up with a plug & socket

Example: 13a plug > 2.5mm flex cable > digital immersion timer with backing box > 2.5mm flex cable > rubber double socket.

Any problem with this or am'I being stupid? :)

have a similar problem with my youngest son, when retiring to bed, the TV and bedside light is left on all night unless I get up during the night and turn it all off
Whatever happened to discipline ! like going to bed to sleep.....(fingers already in ears).
To be fair to him, Luke does 6hrs voluntary work at the theatre every night and get in about 11pm put the telly on and goes to asleep while the telly is on!

The material that the timer and surface-mounting box are made from is rather brittle, and not very good when dragged around the floor, dropped off tables etc. I would mount the timer and a double-socket onto a board, in surface-mount boxes, and make the board an inch or so bigger all round, so it takes some of the knocks and reduces the rendency to flip over. On the other hand, since the button on the timer needs to be reached easily, you could mount it on the wall next to the bed, but I'm not sure about running flex from a fixed box like that (sound of stampeding sparkies coming this way, half of them carrying tar, the other half feathers...) :)

Cheers.
