Evening all. My soil pipe has developed a leak where the shower waste connects to it and I’ve got a new strap on boss and 50x40mm adaptor and my plan was to fit this where the existing connection is.

The strap-on fits the main 110mm pipework perfectly - HOWEVER the shower waste currently connects onto what looks like another fitting which makes the 110mm pipe slightly larger and the strap-on doesn’t fit where I need it to

So if anyone could identify what type of fitting this is it would be appreciated and also advise if I should

1 - Try to clean out and fix the leaking joint as it currently is

2 - Fit the strap-on boss lower down on the soil pipe and extend the shower waste downwards slightly (advice on how to plug the hole that would be left above appreciated. Perhaps a 40mm cap end??)

3 - Remove a section of soil pipe below and renew. My only concern with this is that the toilet connection isn’t much further up AND the pipes and fittings look like they’re solvent-welded and not push-fit

4 - Something else…

As ever, any advice is really appreciated

That looks like a 110mm push fit to solvent weld coupler with a 40mm boss adapter, bit of a strange old fitting, either that or it's been a bit of a fudge with a fitting glued to it to get the 40mm to fit. You do get purely solvent weld with a 40mm boss but not seen one like that with a push fit end.

You could shorten the waste a little, cut the stack connection out with a hole cutter and then use a McAlpine BOSSCONN110T-GR, then add a new piece of waste pipe to fit.

Thanks for the reply. It’s certainly not a fitting I’ve seen before. Doesn’t look like any sort of “connection” up close so I’m inclined to agree with the “fudge” verdict.

That McAlpine looks the job - shame I can’t find one in white though ‍♂️

Ah I see, I presumed it was just bleached grey given it's age. Yeah, unfortunately the only one they do in white is the 22mm condensate adapter.

I guess you could primer and spray it matt white if you are handy.

Thanks. Will see if the pipes above are deffo push-fit and then may chop the lot out and fit a new boss
