Some maniac running over a child and leave the scene?

M

Mickymoody

It's reported in the news that a 6 yo child, was run over, and killed...but the driver felt his/her need to leave the scene..

How heartless is that?

People that steal money get longer than those for murder, but these people, should be locked away for life., meaning life. You take your car for repair, sorry about the bloody windscreen, and the dents, just repair it will ya?

They ought to be strung up.

Just seen the news, apparently the driver got out inspected the car then drove off.
As a parent of two sons, if I got hold of the barsteward (ess), they would not make prison.

Had it been me, I don't think I'd ever drive again. A friend of mine killed a teenage girl, who stepped out in front of him (about 20 yrs ago, ) and for years he was wracked with guilt. Forensics at the time proved he was travelling at about 26mph in a 30 mph limit, and witnesses said the accident was unavoidable. He was initially charged with causing death by dangerous driving, but this was later dropped completely. Last time I saw him (about 5 yrs ago) he still felt that he shouldn't have driven the route that he took. His life was changed forever in the blink of an eye.
I do hope the driver of the vehicle comes forward. If not I hope the police manage to trace him and bring him to justice.

Heard one report that said the driver was a young man. Whether that means just-passed-his-test young I don't know. Maybe he panicked? Who knows. We may never know.

Similar to John's story, my uncle killed a biker 30+ years ago. He was coming out of a farmyard in a tractor, on a 60 road and the biker came round the corner and smashed into him. He (my uncle) was found to be innocent, even the biker's family told my uncle that the lad rode like an idiot, but that doesn't stop the feelings of guilt and responsibility. He still won't/can't talk about it.

Hope the young lad comes forward.

I watch these TV Cop shows, where someone is shown on ANPR, not to be driving legally...but then lie through their teeth, when it's blatent lying that they are doing. How is it possible that you run someone over, check your motor out, and drive off?

When did it become OK to deny guilt? I was held up in my car one day, by a person parked illegally, so used my horn, as a tool to remind the person that I was there, and got a load of abuse back. People ignore responsibility. And blame others. It seems.

I'm going to stick my neck out here with my feelings on this. I think it's terrible what's happened and the driver should not have scarpered........

BUT:

What was a six yo boy doing crossing a road without an adult??

My 6 yo boy is told NEVER to cross a road without an adult. NEVER.

Even my 8 yo boy cannot. Our eldest boy, 11 is allowed, but he is not allowed to take responsibilty for anyone else crossing a road.

Now, maybe I'm being over-protective, but I feel that children that young (10 and under) have not got the precise skills of perception and respect for traffic that older children have. They cannot judge speed or traffic movements.

Am I being harsh?

No, it also crossed my mind.
But a 10 yr old can do the same and forget.

Wrong on so many counts, no supervision is the main.
The driver...........too fast I bet.
If true he checked car and drove off, hang the ****. Fuok shock or whatever he may plea if caught!

The parents must be devastated, and the friends relieved, how many others child could that have been? I was lucky, my children played within a gated property, but were always attended and knew how to cross the road.
And yet one day I almost knocked one over!!!!!!

Its all about awareness, and I have always totally supported school awareness programmes and helped assist funding when possible.

I do not give a **** ( hope that gets thru) if your siblings think your nagging if they live.

Easy really, rather be a nagging father than a grieving one.

Thats what children DO. You cannot tell them enough..but they do. A child down the road from me was killed, after side hitting a Lexus, I came home, road closed. Kids do that. What do the council do? Install a crossing straight across from their house. Roads is Roads. If kids run into them...

But my point is we all know that is what children do.

So we, as responsible parents make a decision to teach them how to cross the road safely.

AND until we deem them capable of that task on their own, we supervise them.

Face it, that kid should NOT have been allowed out to cross the road on his own at that age. No way.

Poor kid...But look at the road.Busy, fast, and a slight bend.No way should a six year old be crossing a road like that on his own,or with a mate the same age as it happened.
Even I would be wary crossing a road like that.

Shocking waste of a life.

If that is the road, where this incident happened, then there seems no reason for anyone to cross, as there are no pavements, and it seems to be a rural area..hence, why was a child allowed out, in such an area?

IF that is the road then it seems unbelievable to me that you wouldn't see someone crossing it especially considering that is seems to go into a dip ie you'd be looking down on the road therefore having an even better view.

Get real, a ball kicked across the road!
Spotting his pet cat.

Who knows, thing is we will never know why he crossed, but there will have been a reason.
