Spying or just an out of control spying device?

]Lets not forget, the Americans are the only nation to have used an Atomic bomb

With the backing of many others.
We designed it, they took it further. And agreed in its use.

As for "using" many countries have "used" one.
Dropping it on someone else is another matter.

In testing yeah but the Americans have actually used them against a country. So with the Americans it's a case of "I'm allowed a big stick but you aren't because 'we' don't trust you!" Hmmmm.

HAd the Americans not dropped atomic bombs on Japan, the war could have dragged on for months and months, costing even more in human life etc

Are you saying they shouldn't have used it?

Anyways back to the spying business,,,,,, I'm sure there are many covert surveillance operations going on in the world today (not all using spy planes) Iran is one of these countries that will say one thing, whilst meaning another.
Remember, if Iran does develop a nuclear weapon, we all know which country they'll test it on,,,, and as sure as eggs are egg shaped, that country will retaliate with nuclear weapons too. Iran are on a hiding to nothing. ;) ;)

usually, flying an aircraft in another country's airspace, without their permission, and taking photographs, when under the control of an intelligence agency in the foreign country, would be considered spying.

Do you think otherwise?

Do you mean potentially saving millions of lives and keeping our families safe. ?

how would you feel if a hostile nation [in your eyes] flew a drone over your area

i am also not sure why you think a drone over another country will save more than a few lives as 99.9 % of what it sees is people like you or me doing nothing evil

All depends on what it's spying on Big-all. If it's spying on the right target, it's not exactly spying on 99% of the population is it??

So is Google Earth not spying then?

or Google Streetview for that matter?

Or Facebook logging your "movements" around the internet?

Or your ISP keeping track of the websites you visit?

Is it only spying when it's a government doing it?

Plenty of aircraft from "hostile" countries fly over the UK every day. Any one of them could be taking pictures as they do so.

If we agree all of the above can be classed as spying, what is your point?

An American drone can't see any more in Iran than the Iranians can't see in the US or UK simply by logging on to the internet or buying pictures from a commercial satelite company.

We all know that "spying" goes on every day in every country - whether it's journalists after a scoop, people taking a quick look at colleagues private e-mails, companies trying to get an advantage, neighbours being nosey, spouses looking for excuses to divorce their other halfs, or governments trying to find out if a nutter is trying to develop weapons which he's almost certain to use to kill millions.

What I don't understand is why is it even considered worth a mention?

If you've got something to hide, then keep it hidden properly.

So you think it's fair game for foreign military / spy planes to be roaming UK military facilities?

Fair enough for them to try, yes. We're doing the same to them every day of every week of every year.

But they shouldn't be suprised when we shoot them down if they show too much interest in something we want to keep secret!

Totally agree.

Who is to say we dont shoot down the odd drone or sink a boat occasionally

to try...... all they have to do is look and visit our navy. It is very open so that even you can see it..... If they think they need a spy to get into our defences they really must need help..... Maybe from private Pike....
