On some diesel cars/vans years ago, if they were lazy turning over you could 24 volt them to jump start them.

meaning you should not tow an auto to far due to the tourque convertor
Years ago during my apprenticeship, I was taught that the torque converter drove the gearbox oil pump and if the engine wasn’t running, no oil would be circulating the ‘box. May be different nowdays but I’m sure I read that you shouldn’t tow them too far or too fast.

Shame she didn't know a good mechanic.

Wasn’t a mechanic that was needed - it was a good auto electrician that was needed. She tried two before she bought the jump start battery! It would be fine for a week or a month and then totally flat. Start it up and it would be fine again. - until next time.

I wouldn't tow an auto any distance at all with driven wheels on the ground.

Far too much to damage and ££££ to fix, not worth the risk

No, it's because the wheels would drive the output shaft rotating the connected clutches/bands which will overheat because the pump is not circulating the fluid.
