Any death is sad, but exactly who was he?

Seemigly Micheal Jackson is a little pished off as he miss heard that someone from the Boys home was arriving
A sad loss to his family and friends but also to the world of music.
He had a very melodious voice and despite being gay a hell of a lot of women fancied him like mad.

old school friend of mine died at 22..
went to bed on x-mas eve, his mom went to wake him at 10ish for breakfast and he was dead..
not a nice way to start a x-mas day.....

The police have just released a statement saying that Steven Gately died peacefully in his sleep. They suspect the cause of death was from having too many covers.
I consider myself to be a normal bloke who likes a laugh and a joke but I cannot understand why, when someone dies, people have to try and make a joke of it. Is it some form of defence mechanism or am I just a middle aged fuddy duddy?

I'm in my fifties so middle aged? but freddy's post made me smile its subjective i think.
I hope when I die someone makes a joke of it. Its the one thing we all have in common and have no ultimate say in. Far more worthy 'normal' members of society drop dead every day, I have no idea why his death in particular even makes the news other than it gives them something to write about/fill their headlines but there you go.
