I have used the Sandtoft interlocking 20/20 clay tiles in black. The colour black is painted on, but they assure us of longevity. The tile is nice but has a thickness and a curvature, and does not look as flat as slate. I attach a photo. And a link https://www.wienerberger.co.uk/product-range/roof/2020-antique-slate.html

I was now looking at those synthetic roof tiles, they look just like slate, thin, even with the texture of slate.

Has anyone got experience on either, to help me choose?

We've used both many times.
They have their own look.
Cement fibre slates are just that .
We have never had a problem with the 20 20s
But have stripped cement fibre slates off after just a few years .

Why not take a look at natural slate ?

Flatness in roof tiles is more of a physical problem than an aesthetic positive. Tiles are curved for a reason.
