syphonic toilet overflow

there are at least two designs of syphon. The ones I used have a part wide/part narrow trap, with an ordinary cisternan connection, some others have an extra pipe going into the trap to initiate the suck.

may be a one off but a few years a go i repaired one ,,, when speaking to the owner,,, they told me there was an identical WC upstairs which had been fitted with a fluid master flap valve.... not believing i asked to see it,,, as i believed it could not possibly work,,, but it flush perfectly,,and vac out well ,,,,,,, i dont know if any thing had been altered but it was working perfectly,,, just a one off i dont know but interesting,,,, any thoughts on why??

Buy a bomb and find out is the answer in that case, technically it could work.

The air valve does that John not the pan

do it all i did look at that idea but an aspirator will not fit in a flap valve,,,, as its body is to long,,, and the flapper would not close,,,, so it must have had an home made aspirate or non at all,,,,,, personally i think who ever done the job was just lucky and did not know it was different WC ????? in theory it should not work

There wouldn't be it's screwed on the end of the syphon and inside the pan.

Then it isn't a syphonic pan.

Is it a double trap syphonic, or a single trap, or a washdown? These are all well illustrated in the previous post.

If it's a double trap, check that the air extractor is fitted properly with its washer and do not modify it. If it's a single trap syphonic, I would think a flapper valve assembly would be OK. Syphonics are all out of fashion nowadays, so it may in fact be a washdown anyway.

But - I have three Ideal Standard flapper valve bogs in my house built in 2003. The flappers are troublesome and I have replaced all three float operated valves because of noise and unreliablity issues.

A previous house had a double trap syphonic with integral overflow which was installed about 1949, but I can't remember what make it was as I replaced it in 1976.

only come across double syponic WC my self ??? there is an article by royal Dalton regarding single syponic WC but cant see how it could be called syponic with one trap,,,,, another point on doitalls pics it clearly states the water should not rise in the basin,, every single one i have seen the water rises then vacs out the contents,,,, when ive been to them if the water will not rise then thay fail to clear the basin even one sheet of paper,,, when there reassembled the water rises and will clear a full toilet roll ,,,,,,, which contradicts the article
