Just been listening to a union rep who said his members are paid the going rate at £35k pa.
The increase will take their basic to just below £40k.
At the end of the day they are just drivers who get home in the evenings don't get dirty or even have to manhandle heavy loads.
The average lorry driver gets nothing like this and has to put up with a lot extra for his money.
So why do the tanker drivers think that they are worth so much, couldn't be anything to do with the fact that they can close the country down in a few days, could it?
If they are not happy tell to find other driving jobs, I'm sure that their vacancies will be soon filled.
The yanks had the right idea with the airtraffic controllers.

I agree. If Ronnie Raygun could sack a whole raft of Air traffic controllers then surely we can sack a few drivers.

I think lorry drivers have to have passed certain tests before they can drive the tankers, therefore they can command higher rates that other HGV drivers.

I'm with the drivers.

Shell make "£1.5M per HOUR" profit.

I wonder what the fatcats are raking off

rubbish all you need extra is an adr cert in tanks which is a one day course.

Shell got rid of this operation years ago because of the high wage demands.
A nurse after qualifying starts on around £19k and a GP in a hospital after 5 years training £22k.
I understand that these drivers are asking for a 7% increase to bring them into line with others in this field, with whom?
Who else has been asking for an increase of this level.?
Greedy b******s

i wouldn't wanna drive one.

36 Hour week, excellent pension scheme, final salary, 30 days annual hol +public hols, + other perks.
You wouldn't stand a chance of getting a job if you wanted as it is usually handed down or kept within the family.
They are never advertised.

I wouldnt mind as long as i was able to stop every now and then to empty my load.
