They can screw me however they like for £40k. Hardly a pittance is it?

They are not on 40K

Unite says its members' pay has not risen since 1992 and is fighting for a basic-wage increase from £31,800 to £36,000.

Why are you adding £8200.

48hrs per week thats £12.74 per hour

They are wanting circa £14.42

Hardly a fortune.

I would not get out of bed for that ;)

A bus driver earns half that - and he has the lives of his passengers to worry about.

Whats that got to do with tanker drivers?

They are both drivers. Don't you see the connection? They both drive for a living. The bus driver has the greater responsibility.

Then maybe you should start another thread asking "are bus drivers underpaid "

This one is about "tanker drivers"

And tanker drivers drive - as do bus drivers. Can't you see the common link yet?

You breathe Joe, but we haven't found a link between you and the rest of the human race .

I still reckon they will be prime candidates for a future cost reduction exercise... I wonder if the forthcoming EU transport changes will eventually affect them...

FTA said:
...On Friday (13 June) the Council of EU Transport Ministers, meeting in Luxembourg, will discuss the European Parliament proposals to liberalise the movement of lorries operating in the national territory of another country. If such a plan goes ahead then the UK can expect an invasion of foreign lorries able to offer far cheaper haulage rates due to the lower level of fuel duty for diesel which applies throughout Europe - an average of just 25p per litre compared with the UK's 50p per litre.

At present cabotage - the ability for a lorry to carry out work in a country not its own - is restricted to work picked up on the spot market following completion of a journey making an international delivery. The European Parliament is now proposing that such work can be by previously agreed contract starting with three jobs from 2009, seven jobs from 2011 and complete freedom after 2014. The substantial difference in diesel duty means that foreign lorries working in the UK can do so at an average of 8 per cent lower costs than can be achieved by the UK domestic industry, and for vehicles from Eastern Europe it can be up to 15 per cent lower...

I drive as well. What is my link with tanker drivers?

I earn more than tanker drivers.

Is that fair?

Not if you drive for a living it isn't. What type of truck or bus do you drive for a living then?

Dont rise to the bait Scat. Joe thinks that anyone earning anything above minimum wage is overpaid. Especially structural engineers, it would seem.

SE's earn around 40K according to the Jon and Dan Snow progg a few months ago.
