Dubya aint like that cat man !!

Tats are a statement but a much different statement to a decade ago.

Then they were political/tribal.. these days, they're artistic

These days, eitther get one, or ignore one !!!
utter nonsense

the vast majority are cheap generic crap worn by the average chav

about as far from ART a you can get.

its a fad like piercing and punk but once you put the rubbish on its there for life.

Calm down space cat man !!! ;) jeez !!!

you don't know the vast majority of tattooes... so you can't say they ar cheap carp !!!

And it's a huge fad, like eastenders or Emmerdale... you don't have to like it though !!

and people put allsorts like personal dates, patterns, images, which would stay with people foirever anyway.

By saying you don't like Blue, and Shannon '86, does mean it's rubbish, it means it's not relevant to you thats all!!

if your so stupid you have to tattoo your kids names and dobs on your body to remember them then you are pretty dumb!

I am assuming the thread was asking opinions on them
I find them and those who have them in the main to be chavvy based on my experience

Most idiots don't stop at one and put the crap all over their
Bodies

So Noseall, I guess that that you think that some of our armed force personell...

You fucking idiot. Sorry for swearing, but your a prick of the very highest order.

I think none of our armed services are what you insinuate, in fact a few I know would like a word about your "insult" however most I know also think tats are gross.
Those that do I still not know why, nor do their mates.

It does not make you a bad person, but it does not look good.

I don't know what point you are trying to make here but my mates that served in the forces (mostly squaddies that served in the Paras, Signals and Marines in the Falklands) would laugh at the current trend of tattooing.

They dit it to mark a noble and brave cause. They look at their tats and remember a fallen comrade or a tough battle.

If you can liken a teenager covered in graffiti to a veteran soldier then you are one sick puppy.

Tats were invented for warriors.

Sadly it is the masses that have diluted the whole tattooing ethos.

Tats were invented for warriors.

Interesting comment Noseall. Would I have one? No, but that's my personal choice. In some circumstances that decision could change.

Can I refer you to the first paragraph in this article:

http://www.smithsonianmag.com/history-archaeology/tattoo.html

Reprinted below:
Humans have marked their bodies with tattoos for thousands of years. These permanent designs—sometimes plain, sometimes elaborate, always personal—have served as amulets, status symbols, declarations of love, signs of religious beliefs, adornments and even forms of punishment. Joann Fletcher, research fellow in the department of archaeology at the University of York in Britain, describes the history of tattoos and their cultural significance to people around the world, from the famous " Iceman," a 5,200-year-old frozen mummy, to today’s Maori.

I'd put the emphasis on "always personal"

But the recent trend for tats has nothing to do with culture or history
Its a cheap tacky fad.

Surely culture and history is partly an inter-woven fabric of trends, fashions, events and fads?

No not really

If you wanna see cheap cheesey tats in all their glory go to southend in. the summer

The thing that makes me smile Red is that once you let a fad loose upon the gullible masses, it is those who have the least 'nous' that fall foul of the "my mates got one so i'm gonna have one too" syndrome.

Then all hell brakes loose.

It is similar to those people, who having got a nice modest sun tan and have been complemented for it, then go on to make themselves orange and completely forget when to stop.

These people are equally as ridiculous looking.

I sincerely believe that these individuals don't have any mirrors or friends.

When I look in the mirror I don't see my tat!!

I don't think I do want to.............go to Southend in the summer, that is. ;)

And if it is as you describe, I can understand the vigorous criticism of tattoo parade.

I fully appreciate your sentiment, but that can be applied to all sorts of fads: clothes, piercings, cars, accessories, toys, phones, etc.

I've told you a million times, don't exaggerate. ;)

That's not fair. I'm sure they've got orange friends. ;)
Fortunately, the various salons, etc are applying limits to prevent the over-exposure of orange people to the damaging effects of tanning beds.
Although they have a long way to got to stop half-witted people from bypassing their safeguards. (See, I know all about it. ;) )

Ah, now that raises a very pertinent point and one that i have made most clear.

All of the above are not permanent.

Those that have given it the least thought are providing the greatest advert as to why you should not go anywhere near a tattoo parlour.
