Temperature for CH on Combi Boiler

Hello,

As winter approaches, I was wondering what temperature most people would set on their combi boiler?

I have a WB greenstar 25S combi and i have it on 60.5 Pre Heat.

I have a small property with only 4 radiators.

I was thinking about outing it on Eco mode to save on gas but i understand that hot water will take longer to run from the taps.

What temperature would be recommended in a small property?

Would it be okay to turn it up to 70?

My radiators are not as hot as i would expect!

You're conflating two different things. Rads need to be warm enough to heat the room, but that setting has little or no bearing on hot water delivery.

thanks - I know this - what I was was what temperature most people set their boiler to in winter - I have turned my boiler up...I was just curious - as far as I am aware most boiler have a temp of between 40-80 degrees....mine is set at 60.

If your house gets warm quickly enough and maintains the required room temperature when the boiler is set to 60C, there's no need to run it at a higher temperature. When it get really cold, you may have to turn the temperature up, so the radiators give off more heat.

1. The radiators only need to get hot enough to overcome the heat loss from each room, plus a little bit for warming up from cold. (Usually allowed at 10%)
2. On a condensing boiler, the most economical setting is when it condenses as long as possible. This is achieved when the temperature of water returning to the boiler is 55degrees or less.
3. If the radiators are sized for a condensing boiler, the temperature drop across each should be about 20 degrees, so a flow temperature of 75 degrees is about right.
4. If the radiators are not sized for a condensing boiler, they will probably be smaller, and you'll need a higher flow temperature as the radiators are probably designed for a flow of around 80 and return of 68-70 giving a mean temperature of around 75.
5. Turning the boiler central heating flow temperature up will result in a quicker warm up, but less efficiency because the boiler will be In condensing mode for less time.
