Tesla - One of many which needs a log scale:
We don't pay the tariff though, it's paid by the US consumer. Which means there's no 'cost' to us, just lost business and possibly lower margins. That could be far worse than $2.4 Billion or far less. I don't have a clue.this is the data I have:
102,000 cars at say an average of $95,000 a unit. with a 25% tariff. Your numbers suggest the unit price is much lower than than my estimate.
- More than 779,584 cars were built in the UK in 2024
- 603,565 cars were shipped worldwide last year - 77.4% of total production
- 54% of those exports were to the European Union
- 16.9% of exports were to the US
Trump's new car tariff will cost the UK about $2.4 billion if it goes ahead. I am assuming it's mostly luxury cars that we export as we don't seem to make much else.
People hate subscription models for cars. It has been tried a lot and I don't think it has ever been a success if a one time purchase was an alternative. It isn't helped that they're also always (afaik) a worse deal.It always surprised me how TSLA had the options as one time fees. But in the early days they were cash strapped
What do you think a lease is?People hate subscription models for cars.
google BMW Connected Drive. It has been tried a lot and I don't think it has ever been a success if a one time purchase was an alternative.
It depends how long you intend to own the car. Not to mention the goal is to avoid higher taxes in certain regions. It isn't helped that they're also always (afaik) a worse deal.
