""":::In 1943, up to four million Bengalis starved to death when Churchill diverted food to British soldiers and countries such as Greece while a deadly famine swept through Bengal""""
I hardly think That amounts to genocide..Would you have preffered all the British soldiers starved??????

And those wishing to destroy the cenotaph, what are there reasons..As I have said,I understand Churchill angst among some, but not the cenotaph.
I think you are exaggerating, they may have scrawled graffiti, but they made no attempt to destroy it.
That graffiti was probably expressing their emotions about the inglorious empire.
Clearly, to them the Cenotaph is a symbol of British subjugation, rape, mass killings, etc, of its colonies.

I am not condoning such action, but I can understand their frustrations.

Some on here have boasted about how thy can trace their ancestry back x number of years. They are extremely lucky. So many of the inglorious empire's population's history was destroyed by British cruelty.

Clearly. And not a symbol of sacrifice of people of all colours. As I Said they are not well informed.

Some wish to dwell on the Bad,others dwell on Churchill's good attributes...Personally I think we might have been badly off without him in WW2...And As I have said repeatedly, whatever your gripe, criminal damage of statues is not the answer.
Meanwhile, rape, torture, incarceration, mass killings, is all perfectly acceptable, if done in the name of British colonialism.

WW2 killed many too.Churchill possibly saved many.

Good for you..Can see very clearly what you think of British and our History.Care to mention any good? Or just dwell on the bad and stir up hate?

I think you didn't read very far into the article:
Churchill persisted in exporting grain to Europe, not to feed actual ‘Sturdy Tommies’, to use his phrase, but add to the buffer stocks that were being piled up in the event of a future invasion of Greece and Yugoslavia”.
Evidently, the British soldiers were not short of food. The food was being stored in case of a future invasion. When some on here complain that the current pandemic is more important than structural inequality and institutional racism, they forget that Churchill considered a possible future invasion more important than the lives of 4,000,000 Bengalis. Yet he is glorified as a hero. His racist actions are airbrushed out of the narrative.

As PM at the time was that so bad...War is horrendous..People die..Awful decisions and priorities need to be made....I think Churchill was more interested in saving England...Bless him.

Good for you..Can see very clearly what you think of British and our History.
I am very much aware of British history, warts and all.
I refuse to deny the racist comments, attitude and actions of Churchill, just because he was a wartime leader.
I refuse to deny the rape, torture and killings of the Boer and other black Africans, I refuse to deny, and argue that it was cold bloodied murder when Gurkha soldiers were ordered to fire on over 2,000 unarmed protesters, by a British officer, who was lauded a hero.

There are other atrocities by British soldiers and politicians that have been airbrushed out of history.
I can see very clearly what you think of your airbrushed version of British history.

Not Racist.Food was short.Hitler was trying to take over the world...Bengal may have been next on his list!...
