Actually Kendor i did explain this before--xmas and nearly all christian traditions are of Pagan rituals infact xmas has nothing to do with Jesus etc that was an afterthought, it is actually Yuletide where the Pagans would go and get a Yulelog from the forest and burn while having their feast.

A Yulelog is not a xmas cake from Tesco

As a matter of fact, the christians took the pagan festival nearest to thier own (Christmas was Dec 12th or something) and cleverly used their dates and a little of their tradition in order to convince them.

Probably went like this

Christian" Hi there little pagan man."
Pagan "What do you want wierdo?"
Christian" Just thought we could celebrate Yuletide together"
Pagan " But youre a Christian, you think we have got it wrong"
Christian" Tha.....ts no...t exactly what I said. You see, you have the date
right............. well done for that, but you see, there was another more important thing that happened on that day...........ect. ect"

:D :D

Ah, of course: the X is the greek letter "Chi". Thus giving it a "k" sound.

But why adopt greek? If English was good enough for Jesus, it's good enough for me.
