The problem with requiring people to abide by mostly commonly agreed rules is that you need some people to deal with those that fail to follow the rules.

True. But it seems a bit harsh your ealier comments denegrating all of them - akin to assuming their guilt rather than innocence

That doesn't mean I haven't gone over the speed limit occassionaly or thrown a bit of litter down.
I'm human, I will transgress sometimes.
However, if I am in the wrong and get caught then I will admit and accept the consequences of my actions.
I treat people, all people, with respect because I would like them to treat me the same way, and usually it works.
If I were to go out and start beating the crap out of someone or spitting in their face because of the job they were doing then I would expect to receive similar treatment.
The officers I know are all long serving members and a few even have their children following in their footsteps. A case in point is my brothers ex wife. She has been a policewoman for over 20 years and her son and daughter have been officers for a number of years. Because of this, and because I knew a few from when my children were toddlers, I have met a wide variety of them. Not one of them has ever had a reprimand/investigation because of their behaviour, in fact a number of them have awards for bravery or heroism.
Yes, there are bad ones in the force, but then I know some bad engineers/plumbers/mechanics etc.
They are not all the same.

shame as you say some can be nice but others let it down and hard to change once you have a grudge.

Done it at a mates funeral 4 coppers come into pub to do a drug check. Basically say to cop bird does it not bother you working with those 3 tossers when you could be going out with me(all front). She agrees chats to me for next 15 minutes while mates say stop winding them up. lovely girl
