oilman read your history. i only cited manpower as one failing. yes german women stayed at home whilst slave labour was used, accounting for 1 in 3 german munitions failing due to poor manufacture. Yes germany was technologically advanced, but it did not have the raw materials to support it. No oil for a start once the caucauses were lost. They also relied too heavily on technology. Various over enginered german weapons and vehicles failed in the russian winters, too many new weapons were developed not allowing standard manufacture. The fact that america was not gaurenteed to enter the war could have proved decisive in the early stages, but once they did germany simply could not compete with the industrial output of the usa and russia in replacing the losses she suffered.
History lesson over back to the debate!

The point really was that Hitler did not know when to stop. He managed to get an awful lot with virtually no fighting. He could have held most of western Europe quite easily if he had not overreached. Oh, and if you think about it, britain had even less oil then he did. He lost because he tried to fight everyone. Even America would lose if they did this, now.

yes but we did have an inordinate number of tankers coming to us from the us! yes they would lose if they took on everyone, economies of scale again! doesnt always hold true though

We don't know what they know, because whatever they say it may or may not be true. They cannot be trusted, history is full of examples of misleading information. They manipulate everything to support the "establishment", and without exception, EVERYONE is dispensable, and thus available for sacrifice. (eg The Soup Man (aka Gigolo) vs the BBC and the Government Inspector).

Damocles...your story long posts have no content and are meant to baffle, we already know there are no WMD's and all about WW2. But what about today? What would you do TODAY in the governments situation?

If you pair stood on your soap boxes like this in Iraq you would of lost your heads by now, count yourselves lucky about where you live and don't knock it.

I would repeal the governments new arrest without trial measures. No one has shown either that they are necessary or even that they will do any good.

Then I would do my level best to start speaking facts not fallacies about terrorism. And get as much distance as possible from America. Call in the UN.

Try to get some other arab states involved in running Iraq. Increase the aid budget (massively). Not that Iraq is the most deserving place in the world for aid, but we are now stuck with trying to sort it out.

Accept that many more brits are likely to die within Iraq than from terrorism here. It is not helpful that we are shooting them faster than they are shooting us.

Stop torturing prisoners! There is no way any information gained is worth the bad publicity.

Oh, and if the secret sevices really were responsible for that load of mis-information before the war, sack them. (But I doubt they were)

How is it you still can not see that the people who said we had to fight a war because of WMD (which did not exist) are the same ones telling us to fear terrorists? What has suddenly made them correct?

I somehow think Bush & Blair bend the story to get rid of Saddam for the fear of upsetting the oil supply and used the weapon story as a excuse. It has been mention that they have seen the photo of the weapon, why haven't we seen it?

How would distancing us from our biggest ally help? Have the UN ever actually managed to achieve anything?

Which other Arab states do you have in mind and how would you stop them using your massive aid to fund more terrorism?

As long as pictures are posted of innocent men and woman having their heads hacked off you will never stop retribution. These are young stressed men in a war zone, if you believe they are unaffected by these barbaric acts of pure hatred you are naive.

I agree that the information supplied by the secret services to the Gov was probably twisted around, I also agree about the Campbell situation, which is odd, to say the least. Unlike the people of Iraq who were being robbed, raped and murdered by Sadam's mob we will soon get the opportunity to get rid of this useless lying Government.

The people who probably told the truth to the gov though are the same ones that say we have problems now. You suggest they were right last time but say they may be wrong now, why don't you believe them?

Oilman, Yes my my posts reflect my views and if you read more of them, properly, you will find I am one of the biggest opponents of this Gov. All I am saying is we have severe problems with muslim fundamentalists and we need to address that problem.

I do not wholly support this new legislation but we have to do something, the extreme element in these people hate the west and you need to take this into account. It is utter madness to show barbaric animals any sense of fairness when they would have your head off given the chance.

Get real about what these people actually think of us.

I have to support my mate Dave (david and julie) he is indeed "one of the biggest opponents of this Gov" he is probably more tory than Maggy thatcher (and once told me that he would "throw single mothers and their babies out on the streets.")
