They Shoot Horses, don't they?

He's PM and people are entitled to know his views, being neutral is a moral and political cop out
Absolutely not. Every MP should have a free vote. The PM included.
He was happy to lean on the Speaker last year

Assisted dying will become big business, from the lawyers to the purveyors of the death liquid. It wont be any cheaper than travel
Look at how other countries run their systems, and then judge?

Have you ever seen someone close at the end of their life, in pain, suffering? It doesn't make it right, but it gives people an option. It is not compulsory .

One anti lobby mention the handicapped. They suspect they will be added to the list next.

Of course, it will never be compulsory - nobody is suggesting our society should adopt Logan's Run policy towards the old and infirm. This article in the Guardian today makes a strong case for passing legislation in favour...

An estimated 20 terminally ill people in the UK die in unrelieved pain each day, according to a study by the independent Office of Health Economics (OHE). According to its research, to be presented to MPs on Tuesday, one in four people receiving palliative care in England have “unmet pain needs”. The OHE said it used “the most conservative of estimates [suggesting] the true number is likely to be much larger”.

It calculated that, even with the “highest possible standards of hospice-level palliative care”, more than 7,300 people across the UK died with unrelieved pain in the last three months of their lives in 2023. In 2019, the comparable figure was nearly 6,400 people a year – a 15% increase over four years. It also said that fewer than 5% of terminally ill people in England who needed hospice care in 2023 received it.

A shocking revelation for a modern society to consider how citizens are allowed to choose their own way in life. If anyone allowed their pets to die in like manner i'm sure the RSPCA would have something to say about it.

Canada and Holland have had major difficulties

Yes, and decent palliative care really made the difference, and a well timed extra strong shot of morphine that helps the heart come to a rest right at the very end, based on medical advice. Humans aren't dogs, to be put down to save the owner suffering.

What's an extra strong shot of morphine if it's not assisted dying ?

Precisely, but think about the timing and the medical input. Quite different from a completely random figure of six months pulled out of thin air by a has been labor peer.

So you agree with assisted dying, but not with the choice of choosing assisted dying ?

In the article, a woman tells how her mother contracted brain cancer and spent the last two months of her life in constant pain. Access to assisted dying would've spared her the torment.

please could you explain why its a random figure

the purpose is to allow assisted dying only for those who are terminally ill............if you dont set a date then we are all terminally ill as we all will die one day
