This is the same Melanie Philips who supported the fraudulent work by Andrew Wakefield and the MMR vaccine. Philips is not a scientist and her denial of scientific facts were ridiculed with her support of MMR. She also denies the factual evidence of climate change.
Doesn't counter the fact that the labour MP is a blundering idiot. Makes me a little sick in the mouth knowing tax payer money is wasted on such stupid and idiotic people.
Yes, I did notice Melanie's nonsense.
She opens by putting up a straw man "If I were to say I am a woman, that is somehow causing offence to someone who is in a state of gender confusion"
She then goes on to say it is absurd.
But if it is an idea that she has invented herself, her words have no value.
As her opponent says, that is not what's happening.
What is the point of this woman?
She then goes on to read out somebody's idea. It isn't clear whose opinion it is, and who it is held or supported by. But she says it is in a consultation document. So not even a proposal. She says she has a different idea but claims that you "can't" have it.
She goes on to offer the opinion that trans people are going through a phase and will get over it. She suggests that children are being given inappropriate surgery. No evidence to support her ideas so we can't judge if there is any truth in them.
At 6.18 she throws out her most ridiculous assertion, that people will "be called trans-phobic if they say they are men or women." or if they say "a woman gave birth" rather than "a person gave birth."
Is she mad?
I suppose RWRs like to hunt out this sort of nonsense, it must give them a thrill. Maybe that's why the clip says "UKIP" in the top right-hand corner.

I'm not interested in melanie phillips I'm interested in the argument presented by the bumbling idiot who seems to think it's ok for anyone to decide what gender or non-gender they are based on their feelings, because there is no biological basis for it. An absurd example, but I could claim to be a washing machine tomorrow, based on the rhetoric which the labour mp supports, that would be socially acceptable. True or false ?
There is a simple solution in English - unlike other languages where everything is masculine or femine and they do not seem to bother about it.
That is, following on from a discussion recently about the new Doctor Who being (the ridiculous term of) "a female actor".
If actresses desire so much to be referred to as actors - qualified or not by female, then English can do away with all feminine terms and use 'he', 'him', 'his' etc. for everyone.
So, good luck to the new Dr.Who; I hope he enjoys the role and his career is an illustious one. I'm sure he's the right man for the role.
Also, it will negate the stupid practice of writing he/she or his/hers etc. and everyone can be a chairman regardless of gender.

You are confusing issues. Phillips arguments are just made up nonsense -that's her shtick. She mentions scripture? Is she coming from a religious viewpoint? Then talks about a straw man argument- no one is denying her the rights of calling herself a woman.
As to the point about gender - Gender identity vs biological sex. You can ask both questions.

Gender identity is the problem here, biological sex remains a constant. If you have a dick you're a boy, if you have a fanny you're a girl, occasionally things go a little wrong, but in essence there is no biological basis for a third, fourth, fifth, sixth, infinite number of genders. The MP is talking sh1t and you are rambling about sh1t. Don't defend someone just because they are of the same political preference as you, that's what you're doing. You think I come out in defence of every monkey that agrees with me politically? No, that's not how it works.
