Time travel

Travel faster than the speed of light - go backwards in time.

Neither is possible.

Nope, the laws of physics (as currently known) say that you cannot accelerate beyond the speed of light. This doesn't mean you can't travel at speeds beyond the speed of light, you just can't accelerate to achieve it.

Photons by definition travel at the speed of light.
Photons have no mass.

We are talking about matter. It would take an infinite amount of energy so it falls down at the first hurdle. Matter and light speed is impossible, the laws of physics wont allow it.

I read somewhere that Einsteins theory about time slowing down has been confirmed by atomic clocks in jet planes.

See below: Andy
They are trying to explain the relationship between the speed of light (C) and the passage of time. The two cannot be separated. The closer your speed gets to the speed of light, the slower time passes.

Very distant objects in space are viewed as they were in the past.

Others on here talk about wormholes. Rather than cover great distances by attempting to travel fast (toward light speed), some theorists talk about worm holes or warp travel. Simplified - it means bending space (like a poster or sheet) so that you bring objects closer together.
Edited.

Even better, atomic clocks are now soooo accurate, scientists can measure the differing speeds of time passing, on different floors of a building, iirc:eek:

Speed of light is c not E BTW.

Thanks. I've edited.

It's hard to imagine that matter contains such vast amounts of energy, when looked at through the theory E=mc². You end up with a huge amount of energy from a small amount of matter.
