Anybody else got or had this skin condition? What treatments have you used and what ones have worked?

It is more common than I thought. According to Wikipedia.com, It is estimated that 2 to 8% of the population of the United States has Tinea Versicolor.

I have a fair amount of this on my body, including my hands, elbows, knees, groin, upper & lower back. Used some creams to no avail, now covering them in Lamasil Once, morning & night (i know you're only meant to use it once but I want it gone!), I think it is doing something :) also have some selenium body wash coming thats meant to be good for it.

This is how it looks (random google image), it's not as visible on me because I'm not as tanned. It doesn't do you any harm, just annoying and not very nice to look at.

A couple of years ago i had this condition on my scalp (i am a slap head)

The only thing that worked for me was a shampoo containing Ketoconazole.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ketoconazole.

I used Nizoral shampoo every other day for two weeks and it was gone.

Try rubbing it into the effected areas, Worth a try.

I've bought something similair called Selsun Blueand it is on it's way (smelly stuff), have to smear it on, let it dry for 20mins or so then wash off everyday until it has gone.

Then when it's gone, Nizoral has to be my main body wash (even though it's a dandruff shampoo) which I need to use everyday, or might go the doctors for a pill that you take once a month that keeps it at bay.

Have you tried getting referred to a dermatologist?

Vitiligo (aka cafe au lait) looks similar and I know someone who was diagnosed with one by a GP and the other by a dermatologist (can't remember which way round though!)

i had something that looked exactly like that , i don't know what it was called but my doctor did'nt do anything to help but prescribe some stuff cant renember what didn't work tho.

he said it is a harmless condition, so i left it alone.

went on holiday to Asia and saw a skin specialist while there( a walkin surgery,) he prescribed a course of tabs and voila , all clear now.
