TITAN -ic

When you look at the history of the planet, there have always been fluctuations in the temperature, and various ages "reigned".
We can try to make things greener, but at the end of the day, nature is in charge.
I just hope that I don't live to see the end of the world, I don't think I will, I think it's a long long way off.
Buy a house boat and forget global warming.

Perhaps the way to make people care about global warming would be to work on eternal life? That way the "I don't care, I'll be dead by then" mentality will evaporate!

How about convincing people it really does exist, it's our fault and we can, and should,do something about it though?

My view on Global warming is that, it's going to happen. Totally unavoidable. The greenhouse effect (due to mans contribution towards CO2) is only a tiny element in the grand scheme of things. Ironically, the things we are spending our money on NOW in a desperate bid to put it off are the very things that will be worthless in the new warmer climate.

The logic seems to be, "cut down on CO2 and it will stop global warming". To cut down on CO2 we need to get more energy efficient. Hence we end up with Double glazing (BY LAW), Loft insulation by the shedload (BY LAW), insulated hot water tanks (BY LAW). Insulated walls (BY LAW), How much value will these things have, when we are all living in a semi tropical environment?

In the meantime, air conditioning is regarded as a luxury item (even though death through heatwaves will become more common). Flood defences are going to be under funded. (although deaths through frequent flooding will become more common).

I think it's a measure of mankinds arrogance to suppose we can buck the trend of nature instead of learning to adapt to the changes that are on their way.

Global warming is a Fact.

Global warming is caused by mankind, is a Factoid!

Unfortunately, when have politicians been interested in the facts. They only want information that they can bend to give them the appearance of caring.

It is in the interest of politicians to allow us to believe that Global Warming is all our fault. That way, they can hike up the price of fuel, impose stealth taxes (in the name of green building regulations), and appear to be doing us all a favour  There's no milage in admitting that our contribution to global warming is negligible. We'd all be demanding more reasonable fuel costs and less interferance within our own homes.

Have you ever noticed how, all negative issues are turned into a money making schemes for government. Smoking is bad for you, so the government must take money from us smokers (I really apreciate that it's for my own good). Traffic jams in London a problem? Great anther money making opportunity in the name of Congestion charges. People get killed on the road, so we get speed cameras, (just looking after pedestrians that may want to cross the M11 you understand ;)).

The very last thing that any government would want to admit, is that global warming is NOT our fault. They don't want to kill a goose that lays the golden egg.

A bit more on thread. Titan trip, brilliant. Anyone that wants to go on about starvation in the third world should adhere to a diet of Asda's smart priced Bread and Water. All the money that they save could then be sent to Famine relief. If we all did this, then third world starvation would become a thing of the past.

If you've ever eaten ice cream, you have no right to complain about space exploration. Have you ever indulged in watching Television? Do you know how many people the cost of that TV set could feed for a week? Do you own a telephone? Don't you realise that the line rental alone could keep several families alive in Africa? As for Broadband internet connection. How did we get that with all these starving people in the third world.

point being made is that the earths resourses cannot cope now with the poplation and like global warming not worrying about it and carrying on with our lives thinking that it's too far into the future to concern us is a very negative approach to life when now is the time to start thinking about what to do... that's if it isn't already too late?

If it wasn't for the people watching on their tellies, most of them would not be aware that there were those very unfortunate ones needing their help, and so those viewers put more into the pot now than when they did not have the box!

Surely global warming must have happened to end the last ice age, otherwise it wouldn't have ended? Who or what was responsible for that global warming? I'm not convinced we're to blame.

I'm not an expert on this topic but i think the warming was over a very long time to end the ice age whereas the climate changes we are seeing at present are very rapid relatively as far as i'm aware marked changes in just the last 100 years so it's very worrying especially for our children and their children.
