Like I said - it's very easy for the hang-em-and-flog-em brigade to sound off about this, and to ignore the fact that according to the law, people are sent to prison as punishment, not for punishment.

Prison's in England do not have religious beliefs so people who think about breaking the law should sit down and say to themselfs if i go to prison, will it have this and will it have that.( in fact they should not even be thinking about breaking the law, it's not big and it's not clever, ).

So you think that everyone in prison is there because they made a conscious and rational decision do you?

That none of them are there because of a temporary error of judgement or emotional excess?

That none of them are there because of learning difficulties, or personality disorders?

I note, BTW, that your attitude to being law-abiding did not prevent you from employing an electrician to carry out notifiable work for cash-in-hand, and not provide the proper paperwork. If you didn't think it was big or clever of him to evade income tax and VAT and to contravene the Building Regulations, why did you collude with him?

Every one who gets put in prison should abide by the prison rules, there should be no bending of rules for certain cultures.

Prisoner's should be treated within the rules of the prison, no bending rules for certain people. otherwise whats the point of having rules.

PS So your telling me you haven't done any electrical work for your family/friends without going through the books and done work which is notifiable, but haven't ? :rolleyes:

I agree with b-a-s that people are sent to prison as punishment, However, I also think that what markie says is correct. Prison involves taking away certain 'rights' - i.e right to freedom, choice, etc. Therefore, rules are needed. To begin to make special rules within a pre-existing set of rules is non productive and it is a sure fire certain way of causing revolt and anger amongst other prisoners and the public in general.

The toilets were NOT facing a certain way deliberately as a punishment for certain people - that would be a totally different issue. If a person bought a house and wanted the toilet changed in position, it is THEIR responsibility to do that, and their choice whether to buy the house or not. If a person has been sent to prison, their choices have been removed - it is fact. Should Rastafarians be allowed to smoke dope in prison because it is their religeon? Rules have been made and should either remain rigid or be reviewed for EVERYONE.

I know that prisons are far from the best way to change someones behaviour, but at present they are the system the government has chosen to adopt. Terms and conditions of how to keep prisoners and how to run a prison should be standardised and not flexible otherwise there are great inconsistencies, which will always render a system useless. This is an excellent example of one of these inconsistencies - and the outcome can only be negative :confused: (PS - A bit like the moderator system on DIYnot :LOL: :LOL: :LOL: :LOL: :LOL: :LOL: )

Family? No - never, unless you include the family who share my house, i.e. wife and son.

But in any event, I'm not being all holier-than-thou about breaking the law and then colluding with an electrician to do just that in order to save myself a few quid...

Yeah, you're right. Also, proper male Muslims never ever 'fully undress' - they wear their white undershorts in the bath and then take one leg out & put it into a clean pair and then take the other leg out and put that one in too....

BAS, do you actually know of anything that goes on in a Prison or just what you've read in the papers?

Moz, that was some awful thing you saw in the Gulf (?) - I think I'd have hit the bottle too mate :( Hubby was out by the time that one started but B-I-L was there (more than once until it all started up again), he got an MBE for his efforts out there and I know he saw some goddamn awful things too :( Hubby was just putting together bodies down in the Falklands - bad enough :confused:
 
We had a very luxurious bathroom when we went to Butlins - I won a long weekend there all expenses paid for the whole family - we had a great time :LOL:
