If my newel post has a wider base than the rest of the post I am guessing for at least the first and last spindle the 99mm max gap applies to the narrowest point of the newel post under the handrail? @DAZB@big-all
Regs state that you cannot pass a 4" sphere through the widest point. Designed to stop accidents with small children etc...
This is part of the spec i have for my loft at home...
"Balustrades to landings (and at side of stairway if applicable) to be min 900mm high, and to be capable of resisting loadings. No openings permitted which permits passage of 100mm dia sphere. Bottom edge of balustrade to be n.m.t 50mm above pitch line."
measure the distance between newal inside faces horizontally
say its 3m you then take the spindle size call it 38mm so add 100+38=138 = 21.7 spindles
now you have one more space than spindle so 22x38=836
that leaves 2164 divided by 23[the extra space ]=94mm
dont cut all the spacers at once go for say 1/3 check for vertical every second spindle but definitely every 5th
carry on and cut the next 1/3 spacers ect ect make individual adjustment on the last 3 spindle
