I have a sneaking suspicion you will pooh-pooh everything I write here, but I shall proceed regardless.

There have been several exceptional winters, more recently 2009 or 10 from memory. But 81 or 82 was really bad. Going further back, there was a spectacularly bad winter in 47 and another in 62.

Going the other way temperature-wise, there have been some hot years, wild fires etc...

Maybe not all personally experienced by me, but my sister's lived through it all except the 47 winter.
