Trvs instead of roomstat

Why choose sooey the RGI over another guy who isn't registered? He's much cheaper and he knows all about gas he just won't give his money to the men in shiny suits to tell him he's competant when he knows he is? Who gets that job then? :D

True, and he knows how to connect the gas pipes quickly to the new location in the loft using speedfit and hep. Saves time. Bit of white flexible bathroom ducting shoved down the eaves, and bob's your uncle.

You're actually making my point for me there gasman, we've got enough to fight against trying to do a decent job at a competitive price without worrying too much about complying with all of the energy efficiency regs. Gas regs yes, electrical regs yes, anything to do with safety yes, as far as possible anything to do with the longevity of the system yes (I know a roomstat will stop short cycliung and increase boiler life slightly). Energy efficiency regs which the old ones won't understand or care about no. Don't get me wrong though, do it right where possible, but in the situation the op described, do what gets you the job. Unless of course you are in the happy situation of being able to pick and choose.

well sooey, if you haven't got any professional standards or ethics about you and are just after a fast buck..... ;)

Raking up the dirt from elsewhere eh? So much for the "unwritten" gentleman's agreement we have on here.

yes boys i have my part L and gas safe registered .

All i was wondering if a customer didnt want a stat then are they in there rights to not have one even if i told to have one . the old couple say they only going to have the heating on 2 to 3 hours a day.

I am surprised that we dont see you in the Combustion Chamber where trade discussions like this are best held!

As you should have remembered from your course, the Part L says that you "should" have a room stat and TRVs.

However, it is the old people's own home and if they really dont want one then you cannot fit one against their will. However to demonstrate that you wanted to fit one I would strongly suggest that you write a letter to them explaining that Part L recommends a room stat and that you have discharged your duty in this respect by advising them accordingly but they have declined to allow you to fit one.

The easy way to talk round customers is telling them it'll save them a lot of money to have a stat fitted, and it'll let them have full control over the temp they want

Maybe they're scared of digital technology - in which case tell them that the old dial type is available.
