TV for Mum

We have had the same problem with Netflix & Prime Videos , often looking for 30mins or more and not finding anything we both want to watch. I also do not like the menu structure, and finding things, so end up on search a lot , which your mum may find difficult.

My Father-in-law had the same issue with sound and the way that was resolved was with a pair of RF Sennheiser something like these

But when he purchased around 2000ish , much cheaper, and with rechargeable batteries via the stand , so the only issue would be if she does not put them back on the stand, then they would go flat and not work

They also had separate headphone volume and TV speaker volume, on an old CRT model , so he could have as loud as he wanted and his wife could listen at her level in the room
Worked really well for years , until his death in 07

Maybe worth checking the TV you are thinking of has a headphone volume setting, if you go this route

You may find investing in the headphones rather than Netflix, although you can cancel at anytime, its not a year contract.

The problem with running a cable, would be a trip hazard

As others have said I'm not sure Netflix would really be a miss on the Humax.

The Amazon prime app I also find soul destroying, slow and clunky and the suggestions are very poor. I also don't find the Amazon prime app very easy to find things with, it's not as intuitive as others.

The Disney + is good though and it's not just Disney they also have national geographic and Star which both have high quality content and are not aimed at solely 18 year olds.

Have just put the phone down to Humax technical.

The Aura boxes do not have the Netflix app installed and it cannot be added.

According to the geezer I spoke to, this was a decision by Netflix, not Humax.

So if you want Netflix, you have to have a lesser box without 4K.

Doesn't make sense really, but there you are.

Yes ultimately Netflix makes the apps themselves, with a plethora of systems out there the app companies started putting their foot down as to who they would make the app for.

To solve this issue Google brought out an Android TV operating system, but TV manufacturers didn't like to pay for it and prefer to do their own thing....

I'm sure even on the latest LG TV's their are apps that no longer support the new lg operating system.

One LG has a slightly earlier OS, than the two smaller bedroom TV's, but all of the apps that we use seem to work fine on all.

TBH I think Netflix and prime are a big overlap. Now that Disney has its own.

Having got both, I think Netflix has a wider choice. A lot of Prime films you have to pay more for over and above the monthly fee.

I have all three + sky.
I watch sky while easting my evening meal then at 9pm when I come up to play on my PC I watch more netflix.

It's not all about films, some of the series are worth a watch.

Squid game wasn't worth watching though, really bad gameplay and dubbing.
Which seems common with a lot of "made for netflix" stuff.

I try to never get involved watching any series on TV, I have certainly never watched any on Netflix or Prime.

I watched that through to the end, I found it quite an intriguing idea. I thought it was a film when I first put it on, I didn't realise it was in several parts until I had had got to the end of the first part. The dubbing and effects were done well, making it easy to follow.

Righto.

Me and boy #2 did a few hours today and yesterday to run the Ethernet cable in.

We discovered that she does have iPlayer on her TV, but that seems to be it.

There are Panasonic TVs on YT with a home button on the remote where you can get access to the others, but hers doesn't. I'm trying to find out but can't seem to find anything.

The instruction manual does not mention catch up TV and is useless.

Yeah, it would appear that iplayer is it for that TV.

Could my Mum use this to access her catch up TV?

Speaking instructions would be much easier for her to do than navigating the EPG etc...

If a TV has a browser, then Catch Up sites are available on line that way.

You can do that with Amazon prime dongle, ask it to open certain apps

Spoken to Humax tech support again, he told me the GA couldn't do stuff like choosing programmes to watch or record.

But their website suggests differently.

Wonder if there is any store that has a working display?
