I do a Chicken Tikka-ish curry for my lot.

The lads say they don't like coconut, but I always put coconut in it. Don't tell on me!

They always say how nice it is and wolf it down...

So you may want to consider powerline connectors , if running a cable is going to be a problem.
Never, ever, use that electronic filth. They cause interference to other RF users for several hundred metres and should be banned. Mains cable was never designed to carry data.

OK. Just deciding now which box to get.

Aura

FVP 5000T

HDR 1800T

There are many reviews out there on various sites saying the first two are slow to react and that the UI is "clunky".

Several reviewers who bought the FVP 5000T said their previous box (HDR 1800T) was much much better in these regards.

But I'm not sure what choice of catch-up the HDR 1800T has; all the info I have looked at just mentions "iPlayer and You Tube and many more...." without being specific.

Has anyone got any of these boxes and what are your experiences?

the 1800t only has bbc i player

the fvp5000t has BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All4, Demand 5, UK TV Player, Netflix, YouTube

theres no amazon, but you could just get a stick for this (though its another extra remote)

the aura is probably the most complete package, and being android means it wont go obsolete next week when they bring the new model out.

If measuring a TV against On Demand's featured, our three LG sets support them all, including Netflix, Amazon and Rakusan, with the options to download many more to the set.

Thanks, guys.

Mum doesn't want to ditch the TV, so I'm just considering a box with hard disk at the moment.

Aura is a lot more than the FVP 5000T....£250 vs £180.

it gives you everything you asked for without compromise. She will have ALL catch-up programs, she will have access to netflix, amazon prime, disney (if she wants) now tv (again if she wants) etc etc.

the aura remote can be programmed to turn the tv on and off, which will mean she's not sitting there with a plethora of remotes remembering which one is required for what., and the ability of using google assistant would probably come in handy for her as she just needs to tell it what she wants instead of having to search for it which could be really useful.

in this instance i would say it's probably worth the extra £70, but obviously ultimately the choice is between you and your mum and what you want to achieve.

Everyone I know with a 65" OLED LG over 3 years old has this problem and some are finding the extended warranties don't cover this reasonable quality expectation defect.

My 55" is coming upto 4 years old and no sign of picture burn. I do have all the safety feature turned on though to make sure it doesn't happen, and I don't watch many programs that have a logo permanently on the screen.

Qled by Samsung is ok, but it doesn't have the same contrast as oled, most high end phones are oled, there is a lot more oled products out there than there are faults of burn in, it is t really that common but it could be an issue depending on the content watched, and many burn in issues are actually image retention, which can be solved pretty easily.

Anyway it's upto the purchaser to decide what suits them. Your happy with LCD so that's all that counts.
