Twin+E cable - Just Checking.

Good morning!

Just a quick check really.

I'm adding a 58w(230v) single tube florescent batten light in my lift, via a single switch.

I will be adding a 5A-4 way junction box to the lighting ring which is on a 6A fuse.

The light will be the only thing on the junction box.

My question is : What size T+E cable should I use. 2.5mm seems very over the top for one light. Would 1mm be suitable?

Any help is very much appreciated.

What makes you think that 2.5 should be a consideration?

Also, how will you ensure the cable doesn't get entangled with the lift mechanism?

Ahh loft! not lift. sorry! haha.

To be fair, 2.5mm is only in consideration as through the millions of articles I've read that seems to be a "standard", but thinking about it I#m pretty sure that's for 13a sockets etc.

So 1mm it is.

Am I missing something? Seems to easy?

Does the cable have to match the existing?

Unless you are planning on having an extremely long cable run then T&E 1mm ² is more than adequate for the set up you have described.

The existing cable might be 1.5mm². Best use that if it is and keep it all the same in IMO.

Thanks. If the supply i and out of the JB is 1.5mm, and I use 1mm for the switch / light cables, this that a massive no/no?

The size of the cable, its route and environment determines the maximum load allowed. Even if your 1mm² T&E cable is buried in insulation its maximum load is still well beyond your plans.
Where cables have mixed sizes your calculation are based on the smallest size cable.
In other words fit the 1mm² T&E.

Quick question about the calculator on the links.

When it needs "Length" is that total cable used from fuse box and back, or it it maximum distance between connections?
