Exactly. No leader of a democratic country should be immune from any type of prosecution. Surely if they're squeaky clean they'd have nothing to worry about? After all, that's what is mere mortals keep getting told.
Power corrupts.
Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Each one of us stands to be judged by our peers.
12 good men and true and all that.
It keeps us all in check.
Would any one of us make our best attempts to do everything right under every circumstance if we were immune? Not one of us I`d bet.
It really frightens me that someone could hold all that power and be unchecked, whoeverso they are.
With this one even more than most.
Not only a bad day for the US of A but a bad day for the rest of the world, each one of us.
Not that long ago (to me if not to you) I was a young boy off school sick for a week so I watched some schools TV and the news, not much on TV back then except the test card and "Trade Test Transmitions".
It was the 60s, film from America, Negros protesting. were they rioting? No.
The had "The Audacity" to walk silently and peacefully and wore sandwich boards with words printed on them.
The words "I AM A MAN" printed on, that was the extent of their protest, they were rounded up by the Police who were attacking them with Bullwhips and truncheons for their crime of suggesting quietly they they were human beings too. How Dare They?
When folk look back to our achievements, how do they back - Oh we civilised the world! say some - did we do it out of the goodness of our hearts? often not, we bullied them, we executed them, we tortured and enslaved them.
Oh and yes, we sometimes taught them some things that might help them (providing that it was in our own interests to do so).
We today are not personally responsible for that but we should never forget what our forerunners did, we should never glorify it.
The ends never justifies the means.
