Mate I believe in climate change. I believe we probably add to it. I'm just not comfortable with the way some nutters treat it as a religion and cry to mum if anyone asks questions.
Whenever I see Just Stop Oil spokespeople being interviewed, they really do come across as religious fanatics.

Hello Odds,
I think it's unfair that many point to India and China, as the worst polluters, as though it's a given fact.
They conveniently ignore the other factors in the equation.
Granted, I'm quoting some figures that are several years old, but USA is always coveniently ignored as one of the worlds worst polluters.
In simple terms, yes China is the highest, followed by USA, then India.

From this website: https://healthyhumanlife.com/blogs/news/top-polluting-countries
"The list of countries that produce the greatest are unsurprisingly known for coal and oil production and exportation.
  1. China: 10.3m kt
  2. United States: 5.3m kt
  3. India: 2.2m kt
  4. Russia: 1.7m kt
  5. Japan: 1.2m kt
  6. Germany: 0.7m kt
  7. Iran: 0.65m kt
  8. Saudi Arabia: 0.6m kt
  9. South Korea: 0.59m kt
  10. Canada: 0.54m kt"
The other influences are, IMO, especially the per capita figures:
"When you adjust the list to evaluate the emissions on a per capita basis, the United State and Canada climb to the top of the chart.
  1. United States: 14.95t
  2. Canada: 14.91t
  3. South Korea: 11.5t
  4. Russia: 9.97t
  5. Japan: 9.04t
  6. Germany: 8.88t
  7. China: 6.57t
  8. U.K.: 5.65t
  9. Italy: 5.37t
  10. France: 4.38t"
Another issue is the racial disparity:

".....the people breathing the harmful air are predominantly black and hispanic communities, while the people causing more air pollution are, in fact, white. "

So for people to quote India ad China as the worst offenders is to perpetuater urban mythology.

Finallly, to suggest that UK's contribution is minimal in the grand scheme is a little deflecting, it isn't just UK's contribution, look at it from a continental perspective, i.e Europe.

Roy.
and sorry about all the edits, the usual controls such as TAB and RETURN give unpredictable results meaning my post was posted before I was ready.
Interesting

Quite. Kind of reinforces some of the points I was making, especially the oil and coal producing countries producing some of the worst pollution.
I should have mentioned the wealth and race disparity. I noticed it, then forgot to include it.
I think it also reinforces the point that wealthy, developed nations should be doing more/better than the third world/undeveloped countries.

Nice maps. I like the trends one with the squiggly lines, for some reason. UK is not a drop in the ocean, but we ARE only a cupful in the bath.
I imagine the wind farms and loss of coal are responsible for our glorious status. OK, but a bit of house insulation wouldn't go amiss.

China and India are the two worst polluters who're also the most intransigent in changing their carbon economy: at least the US can be negotiated into a greener economy - when a Democrat is in office, at least. When a Republican takes office they tend to backtrack.
If you want to bring i wealth disparity and suggest developed nations should be doing more then you'd agree they should compensate island nations for the loss of their environment?

The alternative to the other deniers' argument "it's not happening, no need to do anything"

"It is happening, no point in doing anything"

Which one is Tranny using today?

Either or both

And what exactly are you doing about the caper apart from adding to the problem

Tis a rhetorical question as the answer is very little to nothing at all :giggle:
