Unidentified cable at front of house

There may be writing or markings on the inside of the lid you took off.

Edited for stupidity.

I'm sorry. I didn't see the picture with the close-up of the box showing the writing on the sticker and the 3 cables terminating in the box.

Do your neighbours have a similar box on their front wall?

No worries mate I appreciate your responses! Yeah both neighbours have that access panel/plate but no visible cables entering and exiting at the bottom like I do. The thinner cable you mentioned is chopped off. It looks like a coaxial cable judging by the end that's exposed. I have no idea where that other white cable goes - on the other side of the wall of that white cable indoors there's a blank plate with what looks like phone cables inside - the metal mechanical protection seems to have been wrapped around one of the lugs on the back box!

Those most recent photos, are obviously some sort of telecoms wires.

Thanks everyone for your kind and quick responses! We don't have a home phone line in use, and those telecoms cables are behind a blank plate not connected to anything. I'll ask the contractors to leave everything where it is and be careful when digging out the drive. I didn't want to remove anything, just wanted to understand what these cables were and make sure we weren't going to break something/damage something that we weren't supposed to touch! Again, thank you so much everybody for your responses, I feel reassured now... hopefully they don't dig something else up in the process!!

could it be that the "cables" entering the building at soil level are conduits for the coaxial cables joined in the box

Yeah this is where we've got to! If they are indeed Rediffusion cables, I have no use for them, can they be cut off safely?

Probably, were it me, I would check with a meter, to see if there is any voltage between the wires, check each also against earth. If nothing found, take careful photos of the connection colours, and/or notes, so you can restore them if necessary, then disconnect them all. Leave it for a month, and if no complaints, or knocks at the door, cut the cables.

Are they not coaxes? for Cable TV

They look like very typical screen clamps (attempting to be) securing the copper braid into a tapping point.
