Urgent help please adding keypad to electric gate

Hi. I need to urgently add a key pad to my elderly parents gates. They currently open them with key fobs or a button inside their property. However we now need to open them independently from outside with a security key pad. Can anyone please advise on this. I understand it will be wired in to the trigger circuit and you can program a set relay time to a nc or no relay. Is there a particular make & model to purchase ? Im reasonably ok with electronics through my work as a heating engineer and used to install cctv & alarms etc some years ago.

Depends on what gate controller you have , I normally fit Paxton metal keypads but it depends on what voltage is available at the controller also the act 10 metal keypad is good

Do i need to check then if its running 12 or 24 volts

Might a simple key in a lock do it? Issue anyone with legitimate need to get in, a key. The lock is a key switch, which triggers the gates to open. The control you have has the ability to reclose the gates, after a short delay. Key switch, simply wired across the 'open' terminals, of that control.

Ìs this a gate for vehicles, or does it control all access, including postman, bin collectors, etc?

I know some people with a "trade" setting, which allows access by pressing a button from 8am to 4pm.

Looks like you need a NO dry relay in a keypad that runs on 12vac? NO contact goes across "OPEN" on the controller. I assume when this is shorted the gates will open? You could test it out...

Issue would be how to get the gates to shut after a period of time? Unless this is not required? Maybe there is a keypad that counts down on a timer and will then blip a relay that could be wired across "CLOSE"? Otherwise you could manage it using a multifunction timer of some sort.
Have you tried contacting the manufacturer? They may be able to recommend something...

The controller includes an optional timer, to close the gates, after a period of time, after the it find the path of the gate, clear of obstructions. Otherwise, to close it manually, there is a similar set of 'Close' terminals, which if shorted briefly, will close the gate.

So all the OP needs is a key switch. Turn the key briely, gates open, drive or walk in, then a few seconds later, the gates close.

They want a keypad not a key? If it automatically closes then most keypads will do a brief short of a relay.

I normally use the ACT5 keypad but only internally so far.

Yes, so I read, but as in my post #8, a keyswitch, might be a cheaper alternative for the OP to consider.

You can get a nice wireless keypad for the nice operators this may be the way to go
