Varifocals

I was with a patient last year who uses and recommends a company whereby you send the prescription note from your optician complete with an old pair of frames to a place called Ciliary Blue. Do check them out.

You won’t believe the prices and they are good quality! The big guys like Spec$aver$ and Visionexpre$$ etc. don’t like them and refuse to work with them. (Surprise surpise).

I thought this looked good, but I see they only do plastic lenses. I presently have high refractive index glass, due to my being very short-sighted. Plastic ones would be as thick as milk bottle ends!

I've got an appointment with the optician tomorrow:cool: I'm going to see if I can get one with a local garage to have a grease nipple fitted to the back of my neck.
Make sure they fit a dust cap, and only grease sparingly, or it leaks out lower down!

 I guess this one was over greased

That's it!

Mind you by the look of that, the bottom seal could be completely shot!

  Oh, I did not pick up on that JBR. Although I thought modern plastics were nudging glass TBH these days.

Oh well...

Take care

Add: Is that about plastic being safer than glass though?

I have powerful plastic lenses, and they are thin.

you pay a bit extra though. you must get the anti-scratch anti-reflective coating.

Yes, I do too John.

As I mentioned, I think plastic has come on a long way.

Actually, I know It's come on a long way. Although my prescription is worse nowadays, my 'cheap' specs are easily half as thick as my embarrassing 80's type...

Well I suppose it all depends on how strong your prescription is. High index glass is still much thinner than the best plastic (for a given prescription), or it was this time last year.

A big advantage of plastic though, as you say, is that it is safer because it is much less likely to shatter.

Update on the varifocals. They repositioned the viewing area in the right lens before I went away on holiday but it was no better.

I then had a retest and the prescription was wrong for the right eye as many of you suggested.

I picked up the new pair this morning and while they are proving difficult to get used to, I can see clearly with them :p
