Very hot water

My hot water has suddenly become very hot. I usually have the thermostat set at 55°. No settings have changed. Always on an all day. I have an Ideal Logic boiler which is 2 years old. Our heating engineer changed both valves for heating and hot water this morning. They have periodically been sticky and stuck open from time to time. Because I kept twittering about the thermostat possibly being faulty he changed that too. Seemed sensible to me. My hot water is still extremely hot this evening. We spent £300 today and I am not happy. Any advice please?

Do you have an electrical immersion in your cylinder ? could this have been switched on in error ?

What temperature is the cylinder stat set to ,and what temperature are you getting at the taps ? Could it be that your previous stat was giving a lower temperature than it was supposed to, and your new stat is OK ? Do you have anything to establish what the temperature of the tap water actually is ?

Immersion is still in cylinder but defunct (Completely dead and disconnected). The cylinder stat has been set at 55 forever and a day. The new one fitted this morning has been set at same temp. All I know about the water temp is that I can't hold my hands under it. I have always preferred it at a lower temp. The airing cupboard also smells hot. Any ideas?

turn the stat lower and try it ,nobody will hold there hand under 55 deg,

You need to establish what the temperature actually is. The temperature of stored hot water has to be above a certain temperature to prevent bacteria growth mainly legionella. Just because it used to be a lower temp ,and you liked it ,does not make it right.

Plumber/heating engineer said most people have it set at 60 degrees

Yes I know about Legionella but it is steaming hot. It would be dangerous if we had elderly or young in the house.

Just wondered if there are any other issues we've missed.

He is absolutely right stored 60 c and distributed at 50 c or more. You should not reduce the cylinder stat without establishing temperatures
