Voting weighted by age so young people have more say

How about on your ballot you have to answer three out of five questions correctly to validate your ballot- the questions cover facts about the economy and policy- shouldn't you make an informed choice?

Questions could be about the actual levels of immigration, spending, national budget etc.

Who is a afraid of an informed public?
Discriminate against thick, dyslexic,,uninformed, uninterested ppl,,set the questions as a filter to suit the ruling party,,,another top idea. That would immediately invalidate all the under 21s who do not know their ass from their t..t.

Looks like you are worried - has that hit too close to home?

Again you fear an informed public?

Again, what do you fear from an informed public who have the information at hand - that doesn't mean they will vote against who they intended to.

I have no problem with public debate..You might struggle trying to make an "intelligence test to vote" law anytime soon...

If you start adding qualifiers and weights to people's votes, eg age as it has been suggested above, you are then opening the biggest can of worms.

A private company or partnership is governed by the amount of shares each owner holds, so if you and your 3 brothers each have 25% in your family business you find it very fair that each brother's vote counts for precisely 25%.

But it does not work the same when voting. Let me give examples.

I and my son work 70 hour weeks, pay taxes, and VAT and NI, and council taxes and we both get one vote each, and there comes an unemployed and always on benefits person entitled the same vote. Does not seem fair at all, because I break my back to contribute to society yet my vote does not fare better than people who do nothing to help.

However, then walks in a foorball player who in one week, just one week, pays more tax than I will have paid in all my working career. The also walks in a businessman who also pays more tax than my whole village put together.

Even though I work by b*tt off I will never contribute to society as much as the businessman above. Why should my vote count the same as his?

I'm 28 and voted out, as did my partner and several of my 'young' friends aged 26 to 34.

We all work, none of us claim any form of financial benefit and most of us are well-educated on the matter of which we were voting on. Despite this I've been told I'm too young or simply "not knowledgeable enough" to cast an informed decision.

I've worked since I was 16 and my partner has been working as a Nurse (first student, now district) for 9 years (she is 27). Nobody can tell us we are not eligible to vote. I made my decision perhaps against the 'norm' for my age group but it was a decision based on my own research and informed opinion.

In a democracy everybody who can vote should vote. Yes you will get the drongos who vote based on what The Sun says and but if all educated people cast their vote then the true decision and true opinion of the people will be cast. Democracy only works if we all take part.

However, then walks in a football player

Why should my vote count the same as his?
A huge number of footballers in this country would be ineligible to vote as they are not UK citizens, I get your point though.Prisoners & ex pats should not have a say, and if a large number of un motivated youngsters can't be bothered to vote, be it because they're lazy, selfish or just don't want to "sign my name on a ballot paper", then tough sh1t, they get what they deserve.

There should be an income tax threshold governing when you can start voting.
Yup.

A threshold of £0.00.

Need to include NI contributions as well.

the majority of the country’s income being squandered on undeserved welfare payments.
Please share with us the source(s) of the verified figures which support that claim.

That might, at first glance, seem to be a reasonable stance.

However, except for the relatively small number of voters who live in marginal constituencies, the vast majority of voters have no say because their vote makes absolutely NO difference to the result.

He is on about malingerers & the workshy, who have never paid into the system
How many of those people are there?

And just to avoid any doubt, you must answer that with figures based on verifiable facts, not lies, bigotry or ignorance.
