l would like to put up some heavy wall units in my kitchen, but the interior walls are plasterboard/stud. How can l find where the wood is behind the plasterboard to make the fixings. Also if they don't line up with the wall unit fixings how do l go about that. l would like you best ways to achive this, what fixings to use etc. thanks

Mark the position of the wall unit on the wall, drill tiny holes in a row 'till you hit the timbers and mark their positions (you won't see them afterwards 'cus their behind the unit) Fix the mounting brackets to the wall with plasterboard fixings (redidrivers) if there's no timbers there. Fix a length of 2x1 or similar between the mounting hooks on the unit (by screwing through the top of the wall unit into the 2x1) lift the unit onto the brackets, then screw through the back of the unit the 2x1 & into the timbers.
If you've got no mounting brackets on you unit, you still get the general idea.
If there's no timbers there you'll have to just use the same method but with lots of redidrivers and strong adhesive on the back of the unit and hope for the best (thats what I do)
Go steady there may be pipes or cables, use a bradawl instead if youre unsure.

what are redidrivers, have you got any links to show these.

The wooden batten can be very handy, if you have several wall units to fit, you can screw a batten to the wall positioned underneath the bottom of the units, and sit each cabinet on it while you fasten the "proper" hanger. It will line them up vertically and make it easier for you to hold them in the right place while you mark and fix.

Possibly it will also one day prevent one from falling off the wall when full of crockery.
