It's already got one on the hose. Possibly hard to see in the photo and maybe not being used correctly. Then use one of these to hold the hose into the pipe - the machine would normally come with one.

Unfortunately the odours would just carry on into the washing machine drumIt's not there to prevent odours?
Doh - couldn't see it for looking!!It's already got one on the hose. Possibly hard to see in the photo and maybe not being used correctly.
What height should the top of the standpipe be at?Doh - couldn't see it for looking!!
ideally they are for mounting the hose to the wall so it rises up and over the level of the drum to stop it back filling once it's pumped out and the pump stops and grips the pipe to keep it from moving but it's also handy as it can help to hold the drain hose into the stand pipe

I've already bought and opened the other recommended partsPersonally I'd fit an s-trap and then you wont even need any extra pipe

That would just pi$$ pumped water out when machine drains.
If you cut the pipe low down, fit the trap and use the cutoff then you're back at the same height. Why would it do what you're suggesting?

Because that trap is not a running trap.
It won't take 40mm pipe in the top, only a sink waste.
Always try to avoid using any push fit waste on anything, terrible stuff, especially with pumped drainage. My bad. I wasn't paying attention.
This would have the same effect - no?
